Going green

If you’ve happened upon this post thinking it’s something to do with recycling or living a more sustainable life then…soz! It’s actually just a vacuous post about clothes (“just”, she says, as if clothes aren’t part of her life blood!)

I realised recently that I didn’t really have any green in my wardrobe. Then I realised that I wanted some. So, in true shopaholic style, I bought not one but FIVE things.

Have a lookie, why don’t you?

Teal sliders – George at Asda

Some Everything Five Pounds buys

I don’t know about you, but I tend not to shop very much in February and March. The shops are full of new season stuff but it’s still too bloody cold outside to wear anything less than 10 tog quilted clothes and hide under blankets at all time.

Come April though, I start to get a hankering for shiny new spring and summer clothes. Probably because I haven’t dared to unpack all of my previous year’s spring and summer clothes to avoid jinxing any good weather we might have. Or, more probably, because I get the fear when I don’t buy new things.

With that in mind, here’s a round up of my cheap and cheerful E5P buys which have ticked my new clothes box without breaking the bank.

Red ruffle hem trousers

Lesser mortals may think these are only for special occasions. I’m going to wear these bad boys whenever the mood takes me, even to work.

Everything 5 Pounds red flared trousers

Peacock print leggings

Ditto the above. I’ve already worn these to work, but certainly not with a top tucked in (who wear legging like that?!)

Everything 5 Pounds peacock print leggings

Navy and white spot shirt dress

I’ve had a soft spot (pun intended!) for dotty dresses ever since I saw Vivian wearing her brown and white one at the croquet in Pretty Woman. Hers shows more arm and less leg. I’m thinking of teaming this with a red bandana headband and white sandals.

Everything 5 Pounds polka dot shirt dress

70s print chiffon top

I love easy to wear pieces like this (by easy to wear, I also mean easy to wash, by which I mean no ironing required!) Great for chucking on with jeans.

Everything 5 Pounds retro print chiffon top

Frill sleeve blouse

I’ve waxed lyrical about my love of a fancy sleeve in the past, and this little lovely also has a fancy frilled front for extra dandiness.

Everything 5 Pounds frill sleeve blouse

Empire line denim dress

This is thicker than I expected so will probably get more wear in winter with tights and boots. Anyone else annoyed by her haphazard cuff folding?

Everything 5 Pounds denim dress

Embroidered cheesecloth smock tops

Again super easy to wear and no iron (they’re designed to look crinkled!) I couldn’t choose k=just one colour so I got two. Sorry not sorry

Aztec print chiffon cover up

I’m sure I will be asked why I’m wearing a dressing gown over my clothes when I wear this but that’s ok. As you may have noticed, I’m very much of the don’t give a fuck camp when it come to other people’s opinions on my clothes!

Everything 5 Pounds long chiffon kaftan

Off shoulder cheesecloth mini dresses

More non iron beauties! I was hoping these would be long enough to wear as dresses, what with me not being of clothing model proportions, but I might be pushing it on the decency front. But they’ll look great with leggings or over denim shorts.

Has the good weather sent you scurrying to the shops? Let me know!

Thanks, as always, for reading. x

Some Everything Five Pounds buys

I haven’t really done much sales shopping this year. OK, well I’ve done some, but it hasn’t all arrived yet so I can’t share my spoils with you.

What I can share is my most recent buys from Everything Five Pounds, which is a veritable treasure trove of bargains all year round, not just in sale season.

Starting with this absolute zingy beaut of a (faux) leather jacket. I know faux leather can be a minefield, often resembling shiny crap, but you’ll just have to trust me when I say this is super soft and squishy, looks really good quality, and is a beautiful colour which will brighten up milder winter days and work into spring and summer too.

Coral faux leather jacket

I think I was drawn to this dress because it reminds me of Christmas, which I realise is now a distant memory after a whole week back at work. I plan to wear it layered over a fine jersey polo neck jumper with ankle boots for office wear.

Zig zag green and red dress

Love love LOVE this casual jersey jacket, which not only has some blingy stars on the front, but some rather dandy retro style embroidery on the back. Perfect for throwing on with jeans and a t-shirt for those inbetweeny days of spring, which can’t be too far away, can they?

Talking of spring, how lovely and easy to wear is this pale blue boho blouse? Perfect with leggings or ankle length skinny jeans, I’ll be chucking on loads of silver jewellery and some sandals with brightly painted toenails.

Blue boho blouse

Lastly a couple of shoe purchases, because shoes are my favourite wardrobe items of all.

These 90s-esque platforms, which will be super stable thanks to the chunky heel and the buckled strap.

Platform dolly shoes

And, again thinking towards spring, these fringed lace up open toe espadrille ankle boots.

Fringed grey espadrilles

Anyway, because I had some Christmas money and each of these items only cost a fiver (clue’s in the name) it’s technically new stuff for FREE! And who can argue with that?

Have you been buying any sales bargains, or anything at all? I’m hoping my deliveries will arrive imminently, and then I can pick what’s staying, what’s going, and share some more buys with you.

Thanks, as always, for reading! x

Tuesday Shoesday

Despite not having unpacked all of my shoes from when we moved back in…ahem…May (don’t judge me, we’re having building work done and repurposing rooms, and haven’t sorted all our storage yet), I have been buying them. Because shoes. Shoes are my “thing”. For some people it’s bags, or make up. Mine is shoes.

With no further ado, let me introduce my latest acquisitions!

Black & silver star trainers

Black and silver star trainers

A veritable bargain from Everything 5 Pounds, these cuties have silver metallic laces and are so mega comfortable, I can’t even tell you. I walked miles in them during our weekend in Whitby, climbing hills and steps and slopes galore. Much love for them, and even more for the price.

Pink suede studded buckle boots

Pink suede studded boots

These are from ebay, and again mega comfy. They’re lined in a soft, fluffy, almost fur like fabric for extra cosiness, which will be lovely in winter.

Turquoise pointed deep V heels

Turquoise suede shoes

Via ebay, they’ve had a lotta love over on instagram and in my house (the latter is just me cooing over them, though!) They’re so vibrant and look great with denim and yellow. Totally going to buy them in red, too.

Burgundy biker boots

Burgundy short biker boots

I wear this style of boots all year round, to toughen up girly dresses or with leggings and a big jumper, so they’ll get plenty of wear. I love this colour, I have a lot of stuff in this kind of hue in my wardrobe, so they’ll be most versatile.

Grey western buckle boots

Grey western buckle boots

Love the detail on the buckles on these boots. They’re a lovely warm grey colour, and will probably be easy to trash, so I’ll need to be a bit careful how and where I wear them.

Wine suede buckle boots

Wine studded suede boots

A contender for my favourites, I think. The colour! The buckles! The shininess! All the love.

Zebra ponyskin Chelsea boots

Next zebra print ankle boots

These had a lot of stroking at work, because they’re made of hairy ponyskin and therefore very tactile (also because anyone who complimented me on them got instructed to feel them, whether they liked it or not!)  The husband expressed deep and sincere jealousy that these were for me and not for him (he likes a statement shoe). Mega bargain – £75 reduced to £19 in Next!

What’s your thing? Are you a shoe lover? Bag lover? Everything lover? Let me know!

September summer buys

Every year, 31st August makes me sad. As much as I try to deny it, I know it signifies the end of summer.

Come 1st September I develop a sense of bullishness that NO, it’s is STILL summer, and I definitely WILL NOT give in to pre-ordained seasons and the associated expectations, and I will damn well WEAR MY SANDALS.

The last couple of years I’ve taken it a step further, not only wearing sandals but actively still buying them, as though this extra step will in some way push back Mother Nature and her creeping leaf changing and temperature drops. And this year is no exception.

Since getting back from holiday I’ve bought not one but 3 new pairs of sandals! Yep, while most women are getting excited about new season clothes and counting down the hours to pumpkin latte o’clock I’m still buying summer sandals, baring my toes and pretending that we’re heading towards high summer, not the depths of winter.

So, here they are!

Silver crackle lace up gladiator sandals – Everything 5 Pounds

Everthing 5 Pounds silver gladiator sandals

Camo cork sole flatforms – Everything 5 Pounds

Everything 5 Pounds camo flatform sandals

Purple pom pom lace up sandals – eBay

Purple pom pom sandals

This year, for good measure, I’ve also bought some summer dresses, because why not!

Red flounce sundress – H&M

H&M red frill sundress

Snakeskin 2 layer sundress – H&M

H&M snakeskin jersey dress

Blue flounce dress – New Look

Do you try and cling on to summer? Or are you firmly in the “bring on autumn” camp?

Some Everything 5 Pounds buys

My regular-ish round up of what I’ve been buying from the cheapest clothes website on the internet!

Blue and green fringed kimono

E5P blue & green kimono

I’ve always loved blue and green together. I wore this over a black vest and turned up indigo skinny jeans this week (I also managed to “lose” two of the fringes as I ran over myself with my office chair at work!). Looking at the label, it’s originally from Matalan. It will also work well as a beach cover up when I’m in Greece next month.

Multi maxi skirt

E5P print maxi skirt

I loved the colours and pattern on this, although I do find that drawstring/elasticated waists make me look a bit thick around the middle. OK, so it’s actually my love of food and wine that makes me look thick around the middle.

Floral midi skirt

E5P floral full skirt

This is so pretty! Love the colours and the shape, and the thick scuba-ish fabric mean that it’s pleasingly full and also doesn’t crease (possibly the most important consideration of all in any clothes purchase). Unfortunately it doesn’t have the same effect on my midriff as it does on the model which, for £5, I would have sincerely expected, but hey ho.

Denim tunic dress

E5P zip denim dress

This is looser than I would have usually worn in a dress this style (it’s hard to gauge sizes in a lot of cases on the E5P website because you don’t know the manufacturer – and we ALL know that different manufacturers have different sizing – plus sometimes it’s just an S/M or M/L choice) but I like it. It has a tabard feel, and the husband said it reminds him of Game of Thrones armour (?!) which is apparently a good thing! It will also look good layered over a black polo neck jumper in winter.

Black cold shoulder midi dress

E5P black sundress

This is a Primark one I think, and I need to shorten the length a little I think as it’s too in between on me, but I really like the style and think it will be lovely with some wedge sandals.

Annoyingly, I haven’t really been wearing any of my new purchases recently, because we’re so upside down at home that I can’t get into some of my wardrobes, lots of things are still packed up from the move and we’ve had to empty the bedrooms for the workmen. So at this rate I’ll have a whole heap of new stuff ready for next year!

Everything 5 Pounds mega round up

It’s been a while since I’ve shared my Everything 5 Pounds buys, and there have been quite a few since the beginning of the year, so I thought I’d share them with you.

I know I bang on quite a bit about this website and you’re probably bored of reading about it, but I’ve had such good stuff from there that it seems selfish of me not to post some pictures, no?

Starting with sandals. I love sandals. I love bargain sandals even more. I bought some from the E5P website last year before I went to Fuerteventura (read about my trip here) and I was so pleased with them that I’ve bought 5 pairs so far this year, even though it’s not quite yet sandal weather!

Two cold shoulder tops to wear with battered denim shorts or over bikinis on holiday

Two velvet kimonos, in different colours

A pair of “flatform” trainers – I love the simplicity of these (you may have seen them on my Instagram account)

Everything 5 pounds white flatform trainers

Various dresses – the top left mint butterfly print is originally from Apricot, and the third top left dusky pink velvet is DP or River Island I think (I can’t tell from the cutout label)

All that for £85! (plus postage). Pretty damn good I think!

Anyone else a fan of this website?

Its my birthday and I’ll cry if I want to…

its-my-birthday-and-ill-cry-if-i-want-to

Image from Etsy seller Sassy Baby Applique

A slight bastardisation of the Lesley Gore song lyrics, but as I’m not having a party it’s the most appropriate. And I have cried. On and off since Friday. It’s my first birthday without my Dad and I miss him. I miss his daft jokes where he pretended not to know the date or how old I was. I miss how he’d play me up and tell me I wasn’t allowed to open my presents early, even if I wasn’t going to see him on the day. And I miss him phoning me up, and the excitable tone of his voice when he used to say Happy Birthday to me.

I know it’s to be expected, with it being the first Birthday since he died, but I didn’t expect to feel this bereft. This is the worst I’ve felt since his funeral at the end of September.

I’ve had such a lovely weekend too, of live music and old friends and new friends and Christmas market and food and husband. But sometimes feeling happy can make you feel even more sad when it hits.

Anyway, not to be a complete misery guts I’ve busted out some season appropriate clothing – wearing my new velvet boots (present from me to me, via Primark) and my new sequin sleeve top (present from me to me, via Everything 5 Pounds) and I’m trying to have an ok day, even though I’m in the office. I’m also wearing red lippie because it’s fierce and my Dad’s watch so I have a little piece of him with me.

birthday-outfit

I’ve had lots of birthday messages from lots of lovely peeps and I have all my cards and pressies to open when I get home, and the lovely husband is taking me out to dinner.

You know what though? I’d give it all up for 10 more minutes with Dad.

Normal (more upbeat) service will resume soon. Thanks, as always, for reading. x
